| The majestic temples of Cambodia's Angkor Wat were once
the cultural and administrative heart of an ancient empire that
extended into what is now Thailand, Vietnam and Laos. Built
between the 9th and 14th centuries, Angkor Wat is one of the
seven wonders the world, along with the pyramids of Egypt and
India's Taj Mahal. Khmer culture is unique given that it is
predominantly Buddhist yet has been greatly influenced by India
and Hinduism. Thailand owes much of its cultural heritage to
Cambodia. |
 |
Cambodia has much more to offer than just
its temples - the infectious happiness of its people,
beautiful beaches, relatively unexplored national
parks, deserted islands, some of world's last fresh
water dolphins and the French influenced capital,
Phnom-Penh. |

| There will probably never be a better time than
to visit Cambodia than now. Despite the tragedy of Septermber
11, tourism increased 30% in 2001 to over 700,000 visitors.
A similar rate of increase is forecast for the next few
years so now is the time to beat the crowds. |
